Who can apply?

NATO promotes equal opportunities in employment regardless sex, martial status, race, colour, ethnic origins, sexual orientation, disability, and religious and political affiliation. Your application will be reviewed for applicable education and professional experience.

According to NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations "Staff members are appointed to and hold posts on the establishment of a NATO body only on a condition that: 

  1. They are a national of a NATO member country The NATO member nations are: Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America.
  2. They are over 21 and under 60 years of age at the time of taking up their appointments.
  3. They have completed any initial term of compulsory military service required of them under the provisions of their national legislation.
  4. They fulfil the physical standards demanded by the exercise of their functions and they are recognized as being free from or definitely cured of any disease which might constitute a risk to others.
  5. They have an adequate knowledge of at least one of the two official languages (English and French).
  6. They are not closely related to a member of the staff (although the Head of the NATO body may authorize a departure from this rule on the understanding that neither of the persons concerned shall be placed under the direct authority of the other).
  7. The NATO body has received a security clearance certificate from the government of the country or countries of which the candidate is a national.   

For NCSA vacancies only:

Non-serving short-listed candidates are subject to formal tests on essential and/or desirable proficiencies in English (only in non mother tongue).

Description of Standard Language Proficiency:

  • Level 1 – Elementary
  • Level 2 – Fair (limited working)
  • Level 3 – Good (minimum professional)
  • Level 4 – Very Good (full professional)
  • Level 5 – Excellent (native speaker/bilingual

Applications without NC3A Application Form AND relevant Post Requirements Form will not be considered.

Contracts

NCSA Contract Policy - Serving NATO staff members will be issued a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations (NCPRs).  New staff will be offered a one-year definite duration contract with the possibility of additional follow-on contracts of up to three years duration each.  The policy for follow-on contracts is related to the function of the post and satisfactory performance of the incumbent.  Follow-on contracts will normally be issued when the incumbent has performed satisfactorily and when applicable NCSA Leadership foresees a continued requirement for the function of the post.  In accordance with the NCPRs, when a serving staff member has accumulated a total of ten years of service, an indefinite duration contract will be offered.

What will happen with my application?

Application

After the closing date all the applications are submitted to the local Civilian Personnel Office and are carefully reviewed against the essential and desirable requirements stated in the vacancy notice and a short-list of candidates to be invited for test and/or interview is made.  Applications from candidates who do not meet the essential qualifications stated in the vacancy notice will not be taken into consideration. If you have a question regarding the submission of your application please do not contact the local Civilian Personnel Office. Instead you should send your enquiry to recruitment@nc3a.nato.int.
 
Interview

Short-listed candidates will be invited for test and/or interview. The interview will usually last for approximately one hour.  At the end of the formal part of the interview, the interview panel will give you the opportunity to ask them any questions that you might have about the job.
 
Notification of Interview Result

You will be notified of the result of your interview approximately 2 weeks after the interview date.   We always write to all interview candidates to notify them of the result of their interview, whether successful or not.

All candidates will receive a response to their application once shortlisting for the post has been concluded.

Please email recruitment@nc3a.nato.int stating the post you applied to and your contact details so that we can remove your application.
